Club Information

Club history

The London Silver Dolphins were founded in 1983 by current club member Chuck Grace. For the first few years, the membership was small (about 8 members) and the club swam out of the London Y. The first major jump in membership came in 1985 when the Masters World Games were held in Montreal. Upon completion of the London (Canada Games) Aquatic Centre, the club switched facilities and saw membership grow from about 30 to 80 swimmers. Over the first 12 years, the club was coached on a volunteer basis. Increases in membership allowed the club to hire a professional coach in 1994. Currently, the club membership sits at approximately 80 swimmers and a variety of skill levels.

Where we swim

The London Silver Dolphins swim at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre located at 1045 Wonderland Road North (just north of Sarnia Road).

The Aquatic Centre is a top-notch, eight lane 50m pool, which played host to the 2001 Summer Canada Games. All swim practices held at the Aquatic Centre are swam in short course metres, however, each year, the Silver Dolphins host an invitational long course swim meet leading up to provincials.

All evening practices are held in the deep end of the pool while Sunday morning practices are held in the shallow end of the pool. In cases where the Aquatic Centre is unavailable due to a previous booking (such as a swim meet), the club sometimes schedules alternative practices at Carling Heights pool in London.
